    • Ok, I am a total n00b when it comes to computers.

I just installed some wireless internet connection to my laptop and it keeps kicking me out after a few minutes.  I need to reconnect and it happens again after a few minutes.

Anything I can do to settle this irritating problem? Settings that I need to adjust?  Things that I need to download? I must admit that laptop is pretty old, about 4 years.  Think it's windows XP. icon_lol.gif

    • Does it happen with other wireless networks your laptop connect to? And what is the brand and model of your wireless router?

And you may want to try this solution:

"Check the power management settings on your notebook's wireless adapter. Disable any power saving features which may be enabled and try." - fullerms

And no, I'm not familiar with wireless networking. I'm just damn good with Googling.

    • I had a feeling you might be using singtel the moment i read the first post. As LatecomerX asked, is the problem coming from the wireless router or the actual Singtel connection itself?

If other computers on your wireless network get disconnected frequently as well, there's 2 things you need to check.

Are all the phones sharing the same line connected to microfilters (the little phone line sockets that came along with your modem package)? If I'm not wrong, if someone else in the house uses the phone while you're on the internet, you could get problems with your connection. If need be, you might wanna go down to a computer shop to get yourself a few of them.

When you use the phone normally, is the line noisy? If this is true, good luck! It's something I used to hear alot from my friends who use Singtel. They'd be happy to be able to remain connected for even 5 minutes at a stretch. If this is the case, you can try calling Singtel to inform them of the situation. And they will TRY to solve the line problem for you. 'Try' being the keyword here, cos it's not an easily resolved situation. The problem could lie anywhere from one of Singtel's base stations to even the phone wiring in your house. But I believe one of my friends managed to resolve the situation by connecting the modem to a phone jack that was located nearer to the main door (because the wiring to his room was slightly faulty).

      Hope this helps you! wink.png

    •   I don't believe that it has anything to do with Singtel.

1.Remove any device that might be causing interference.

Such as an microwave or cord phones as all this could interference.

The following links below will assist you in this :

Hmm.. Just wondering. Any reason why you believe that the problem might not lie with Singtel? It's easily the most problematic ISP that's out there right now. Perhaps you might have some reason to believe otherwise?

FYI, i'm have been using Singtel's internet service for 10 years.

And for so long, i have not met with any problem. And the speed is fast, a singtel 8mbps for example could win a 8mbps starhub easily.

And maybe even up to 20mbps.

I would say that starhub, as a shared network service provider, is even more prone to problems compared to any other ISP.

I am surprised.   Singtel is known to have the best connection among all service providers.   When I used Singtel, I really had no problem with connection.  their service is bad, can't deliver what they promised, I was treated badly many times by the service staff, overcharged a few times by Singnet.   These are reasons why i stop using them.

NOw I have disconnection problem with STarhub.    Their service is good, good rates for the subscription just that the connection is poor.   Just this afternoon surfing, I am disconnected for about 3 to 4 times.
