EPL - Manchester United vs Sunderland - Dec 6 replied by zocoss @ Fri, 05 Dec 2008 11:22:31 +0800

Sunderland players celebrate after Roy Keane resigns

Roy Keane's shock departure as Sunderland manager sparked
celebration among the players, it emerged on Thursday night.

Gone: Roy Keane's resignation from the
position of Sunderland manager appears to have sparked celebrations
among the players

"He ruled by fear," said one source close to the squad,
who added that Keane's hardline management methods had alienated
many at the relegation-threatened club.

Keane is understood to have announced his departure by sending
club chairman Niall Quinn a text message. Quinn made several
attempts to contact Keane to try to change his mind, but his calls
and texts went unanswered.

However, Quinn's fears were confirmed when Keane's London-based
solicitor, Michael Kennedy, faxed a statement signed by his client
to the club on Thursday at lunchtime.

Keane later put out a brief statement which read: "I would like
to thank my staff, players, Niall Quinn and, in particular, the
fans for their support during my time at Sunderland, and I would
like to wish the club every success in the future."

Quinn, who is considering installing Sam Allardyce as Keane's
successor, had returned from a short break in Portugal to sort out
his fellow Irishman's future. But Keane has not been seen at
Sunderland since last Saturday's 4-1 defeat by Bolton and he
maintained his distance by staying at the family home in Cheshire,
from where he has been commuting to Wearside by helicopter
recently.

"After the weekend, without going into too much detail, we gave
him a bit of time to himself because everyone hurts after a result
like that," Quinn told a media conference. "He was down and we
tried to move it along, but we couldn't quite get there.

"He will get a bit of time to himself now and I am sure he will
recharge and get going again, and I am sure we all know the Premier
League hasn't seen the last of him and he has got great things to
come."

Keane did not bother heading to the club's training ground to
bid farewell to the players in person.

Keane's bumpy ride

Sept 2006: Inspires Sunderland to a 2-1 win
over Derby in his first game as manager.
March 2007: Leaves three players behind when they
are late for team bus to Barnsley.
April 2007: Carlo Edwards scores a great winner
over Burnley to put Keane on course for promotion and title.
April 2008: Premier League survival ensured with a
3-2 win over Middlesbrough.
Oct 2008: Sunderland fans dance in thestreet as
they beat Newcastle for the first time in 25 years.
Nov 2008: Keane says he may quit after abject 4-1
defeat by Bolton. He walks away four days later.

Ferguson: No Player Will Leave Manchester United On Loan replied by Dead_Man_Inc @ Fri, 05 Dec 2008 10:48:49 +0800

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has declared that
none of his latest batch of youngsters will be available for loan
deals to other clubs.

An understrength United overcame Blackburn Rovers in the Carling
Cup last night to ensure a semi-final berth in the competition, and
Fergie believes that his fringe players have what it takes to make
an impression at Old Trafford.

The Scot insists it is vital for the unity of the squad that the
entire number is kept together.

Players like Danny Welbeck, Darron Gibson and Raf\ael da Silva have
all made a strong impact at the club this season, and Ferguson
recognises the importance of having a fit and healthy panel.

He told the press: "The one good thing is that we've got a big
strong squad, I won't be letting anyone else out on loan and I want
to keep everyone together because I'm going to need them.

"It's all about taking their chance when it comes and they have
done that and I'm pleased with that but more importantly it adds to
my squad when we're coming in the second half of the season.

"We've got something like eight games in 26 days and I've got the
squad to cope with that. It's a great bonus we've got now.

United's League Cup run has taken then past three opponents, all at
Old Trafford, and Ferguson admits that he has learned a lot about
his second string over the course of those games.

He continued: "Playing against Middlesbrough, QPR and against
Blackburn, we learnt something from them, their temperament, their
ability to play in front of the crowd at Old Trafford.

"They're never phased, that's the important thing. These young
players have come through well."

The Red Devils face a tricky period, with games in the Premier
League, Champions League, League Cup and FA Cup all scheduled in
the next month or so.

Nike To Push Ronaldo Towards Inter? replied by Dead_Man_Inc @ Fri, 05 Dec 2008 10:46:57 +0800

Inter may find it easier to make a move for Cristiano Ronaldo
after one of the club's sponsors, American sportswear giant Nike,
backed the plans.

The Nerazzurri have been linked with the Manchester United ace and
2008 Ballon d'Or winner as Jose Mourinho looks to bring in his
fellow countryman.

Ronaldo failed to move to Real Madrid in the summer, despite mega
offers coming his way. Perhaps the reason behind the Primera
Division side's failure is that their shirt makers are Adidas.
Ronaldo wears Nike football boots and so there was a problem.

Nevertheless, Il Corriere Dello Sport claims that Nike are
trying to push Ronaldo to sign for Inter and a mega sponsorship
deal for both club and player is on the cards.

The sports company want to pair Zlatan Ibrahimovic with the
Portugal international in an attempt to create a dream pairing at
the club as both players are sponsored by them.

Nike are looking at the potential benefits in terms of a marketing
strategy as they sponsor the Nerazzurri and it would be a major
coup if the company had two Nike-sponsored players playing for a
team who also carry the famous swoosh logo.

The Italian club's main sponsors, Pirelli, have pumped more money
in to help with their plans for Ronnie and, if Nike begin to push,
the United star could soon be wearing the black and blue
jersey.

Huntelaar Would Have Considered Manchester United replied by zocoss @ Thu, 04 Dec 2008 22:21:28 +0800

I think if we want to have a rough idea of how good he
really could be, we can see how is Afonso Alves doing at Middlesbough. He was also
top scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie before moving to the
premiership...

In 2007, he finished as top goalscorer in the Eredivisie with 34 goals, which is a club
record. During the 2008 season, he played 8 matches for his dutch
club and scored 11 goals but only manage 6 out of 11 games for
Boro... And this season so far, he has played 15 games and scored
only 3. Huntelaar is maybe better or maybe worse, who
knows...

For me I feel he is a good player but not great. Real were
probably desperate as Ruud is out for the rest of the season so no
strikers. And during this time of the window, most top
strikers won't be moving cos their clubs wouldn't sell and most top
players won't be able to play in the champions league too but
he can...

Another thing is, If Ajax don't sell him now, come Jun he would
be left with a yr to go on his contract making it possible for Ajax
to get any good price for him...

Personally I think he is over rated... Maybe he did play well in
the Eredivisie but the Eredivisie is not the Premiership or
La Liga... And the Eredivisie standard today is not like
those 10 yrs ago... Ajax can't even make it into the CL and If
I am not wrong, I think they are also not in the Uefa cup...

Huntelaar Would Have Considered Manchester United replied by jonchao72 @ Thu, 04 Dec 2008 20:46:28 +0800

Huntelaar Would Have
Considered Manchester United

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has admitted
that Manchester United could have scuppered his move to Real Madrid
had they shown interest in him...

Dutch hitman Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will join Real Madrid from Ajax
on January 2. He's needed to lead the line in the absence of
crocked countryman Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Los Blancos will unveil the 25-year-old on Thursday, in order to
inject a timely morale boost into the club.

Before the presentation, though, 'The Hunter' has admitted that
things could have been very different had Manchester United
followed up on their previous interest in him by challenging Madrid
for his services.

United shelled out €30 million to take Dimitar Berbatov from
Tottenham Hotspur instead, while Carlos Tevez's future at Old
Trafford has been unclear for some time. Thus, a bid from Sir Alex
Ferguson was highly unlikely.

Still, the Oranje star has admitted that it could have given him a
headache.

Manchester City are said to have had a bid rejected for his
services during the summer - one much higher than the €27 million
agreed between Madrid and Ajax.

Expressing a distaste for the cash-rich Citizens, the striker said:
"There was enough interest in the summer, but these weren’t the
clubs we had thought about.

"Manchester City didn’t meet the criteria we wanted. Manchester
United? Maybe that would have been another story!"

Huntelaar's words are not what Los Merengues want to hear, as they
have a bitter relationship with the Red Devils as it is. He's also
hinted that City may not be able to buy happiness in January.

Greg Ptolomey, Goal.com

haiz.. if he becomes another torres fergie sure damn du lan
one...

Barely 2 hours after posting earlier, it now seems Mr Keane has
really left the building...

Damn! now it seems United will meet a rejuvenated Sunderland
eager to impress their new manager... Why can't he just stay until
after the weekend than leave man... Remember West ham...
